It looks like the future of the Beasties is in great hands! Over the weekend we had 6 teams compete in the Sydney Junior Rugby Union Grand Finals and 4 of them came away with the silverware!
A huge congratulations and thanks to all our Junior Players, Coaches, Volunteers, Mums, Dads and Families for an outstanding season across all clubs.
Wallaroos U15A Division Cup Grand Final L 7-23
It has been a memorable season for our U15 team, winning the State Championships, the NSW Club Sevens competition, the Gold Coast rugby Carnival and the minor premiership in the U15 A Division competition. Having won its elimination final 46-12 the week before, the team was unable to reproduce its best form for the grand final, going down 23-7 to Lindfield. It has been an extremely successful season - including the first state championships won by an Easts team for over 20 years - of which the boys are justifiably proud. Special thanks to the senior club for providing fantastic support to the team and in particular for allowing the boys to train with Colts in the “Emerging Colts” program.
Wallaroos U13 B Division Cup Grand Final W 26-21
The Under 13 Easts Wallaroos Red team travelled to Windsor last Sunday to face Blacktown in the Sydney Junior Rugby Union B division Grand Final. The Blacktown boys were much bigger and pounded out an early pick and drive lead. However, ferocious tackling, skill, speed and fitness together with some sage words by coach, Ed White at half time, led to a Beasties win. Final score 26 to 21 to Easts.
Wallaroos U13 C Division Cup Grand Final W 7-5
The 13C had the season start with the same coach as last year Matt Grice with about 70% of the existing team remaining the same. We had some talented new boys from around the Eastern Suburbs join this team. We maintained 2 nd position most of the year and went into the Semi Final in 2nd place which made us play the 3 rd place team which we won at our home ground. This took us into the Finals playing the top team. We went in with the same positive attitude as each week and come away with a tight win but a win 7-5.
Wallaroos U12 F Division Cup Grand Final W 15-12
The Easts Wallaroos U12 White team travelled to Kingsdene Oval expecting a tight game against a Collaroy team they had battled to a 19-19 draw with 4 weeks earlier.
The Easts forwards set the tone early with aggression and commitment that laid the foundations for a dominant first half. It was no surprise when Daniel Marr crashed over to give Easts a 5-0 lead after 9 minutes. Collaroy battled in defence but their equalising try from an intercept came completely against the run of play just before half time.
Collaroy started the second half with much more intensity and took the lead 6 minutes into the second half, a successful conversion push the lead to 12-5 but Easts refused to be downhearted. The second half continued with high quality rugby being played by both teams and Oli Welsh went over for the second Easts try of the day. The conversion fell just short so Collaroy held onto a 12-10 lead with 15 minutes to play but the momentum was back with Easts and a superb run around try into the corner from Toby Symons put Easts back in front.
The final 5 minutes saw Collaroy fighting to keep their hopes of taking the cup alive but some monumental defence from the weary Easts legs saw them hold on to take victory in a nail biting finish.
